Welcome to Disasterguard

About Me
I’m Tom Wilson, founder of DisasterGuard and a professional firefighter with over ten years of experience responding to major emergencies, including structural fires, rescue incidents, bushfires, and flooding events.
I’ve seen first-hand how these events unfold and the impacts they have on people, properties, and services. This experience has shaped the way I approach emergency planning grounded in what works on the ground, not just on paper. I combine this with formal training to help organisations reduce risk and build stronger, more resilient communities.
I hold:
- Master of Disaster Resilience and Sustainable Development
- Graduate Certificate in Emergency and Disaster Management
These qualifications give me a solid foundation in disaster risk reduction, evidence-based planning, and sustainable recovery. They ensure the work I deliver reflects current best practice, aligns with regulatory requirements, and is practical for everyday use.
I’ve prepared tailored emergency plans, risk assessments, and continuity frameworks for Aged Care providers, NDIS services, and small businesses. I also led a government-supported project delivering over 2,000 firefighting uniforms to Bhutan to support firefighter safety.
Further Qualifications
Bachelor of Sustainability (Environmental Governance major)
Certificate II and III in Public Safety (Firefighting and Emergency Operations)
Person-Centred Emergency Preparedness (P-CEP) – University of Sydney
Work Health and Safety Representative (HSR) training
